This is the full Yiddish title which in English reads, 'A letter to my Mother'. The record illustrates Al Bowlly's ability to cope with any type of song and in this one he recorded a classic. It was recorded at the Chenil Galleries, Chelsea, London on 27th January 1933.

November 1926. Not a good copy at all, but a lovely looking label all the same. I'm not sure what these records were made out of but it could be a hard rubberised material and cardboard?, whatever it is,it certainly has perished a great deal over the last 80 years and is far too fragile to play on my Gramophone and Radiogram.

From the personal collection of Stan Greening this test pressing for the Columbia Graphophone Co. was cut on September 5th 1931. The vocal is by Leslie Holmes. Brian Rust's 'British Dance Bands on Record' tells us the released version was recorded a week earlier on August 31st 1931.

A Medley by Nat Gonella & His Georgians. This is 'Hot' and shows Gonellas' mastery of his art of Trumpet playing. On BBC 1 in 1989, Jimmy Perry's wonderful TV series 'Turns' which rescued clips of Bands and Artistes from oblivion showed a clip of Gonella playing 'Troublesome Trumpet' .I still have this clip, wonderful viewing too!. The film was from 1935 so possibly the record is too.
